Laying-Up Supper 2024

A yacht club's 'Laying Up' Supper is traditionally held to celebrate the end of the sailing season and the time when boats are taken out of the water. At BHYC the sailing season lasts 12 months of the year for the dinghy sailors. Hence the start of the Frostbite Series is this Saturday the 19th of October.

However, it is appropriate to celebrate what has been an excellent season's boating even if you are not laying up. Also it's a time to say thank you to all the volunteers that give up their time to put the programme together, give up their time as RO, AROs and on the patrol boats and not forgetting Bosun's Buddies on a Thursday.

We thank Fiona Dawson for organising the evening and Anne Barlow for arranging the cups and prizes. A big thank you went to Murray Clarke for all his volunteering time to plan and organising the patrol boats each week and also to the Honorary Admiral Chris Wilkinson for his RO duties and stepping in at the last minutes to support others. Plus thanks to the bar and catering team.

We enjoyed seeing the dinghy, cruising, motor-boaters and the gig rowing section all coming together for a lovely evening of lively conversation, drinks and dinner. The Brading Haven Gig Rowers welcomed our supporters from Yarmouth Gig Rowing and Langstone Gig Rowing and we celebrated and thanked many of our volunteers who support us week in and week out. Special thanks and prizes were given to:

Sid Duncan who received the Cox prize this year and thanks for all his support and planning
Debs Clark for all her brilliant organisation skills and admin support
Tony Burton for supporting the maintenance of our Gigs
Simon Jones for the most improved rower
Fiona Dawson for all her volunteering and flexibility in supporting across Coxing and Events
John Kerr from Yarmouth Gig Rowing for his coxing and ongoing guidance and support
Mark Brownjohn from Langstone Gig Rowing for his coxing, guidance and support

It goes without saying that all our volunteers are important and we are very grateful for all the time and effort put in to support the Gig Rowing at BHYC from everyone involved.
