BHYC IW Junior and Youth Championships 2024

7.40am Saturday 2 nd November. I thought I would get to the club early. Wow what a turnout. Polly had clearly done her best to get an army of volunteers out early with cakes, teas and coffee, and some very welcome bacon rolls to motivate everyone. With the SIs written, and the class flags all prepared in the week what could possibly go wrong? Oh dear, what's all that diesel coming out of the committee

Frostbite Series 2024 Race 1 Saturday 19th October

The calm before the storm, or more accurately, a very pleasant October afternoon with a perfect westerly breeze, before Storm Ashley hits the UK. And with one of the biggest tides of the year, coinciding with the 'Hunter's' full moon we had more water to play with than is often the case. Scows floating about on the apron, a small contretemps with the submerged mill wall, one scow sailor told me

    Laying-Up Supper 2024

A yacht club's 'Laying Up' Supper is traditionally held to celebrate the end of the sailing season and the time when boats are taken out of the water. At BHYC the sailing season lasts 12 months of the year for the dinghy sailors. Hence the start of the Frostbite Series is this Saturday the 19th of October. However, it is appropriate to celebrate what has been an excellent season's boating even if you are

The Taster sessions have been about encouraging our members of all ages and abilities to try a row, under the guidance and

    Harvest Race Report

We were blessed with sunshine and moderate breezes on Saturday for the Harvest Race. Despite the early start, due to the tide, and a committee boat start, due to it being a single race for all classes, there was a good turnout from both fast and slow boats. There was a short delay while the wind settled down to it's forecast NE direction, a bit of a rare direction for us.

    SUNDAY RACE

SUNDAY RACE Some of the best racing is the most unlikely and totally spontaneous. This is what happened on Sunday morning. A beautiful early autumn morning but very little wind. However, the Scows were keen to go so we delayed the start for 20 minutes until a whisper of breeze was felt. We set an ambitious course!! upside down Y (this side of fisherman's pontoon), then 17, 3 times round.

    Great Bembridge Paper Boat Race

Despite a cloudy sky, this year's Great Bembridge Paper Boat Race was a huge success with lots of entries. As part of the Bembridge Harbour Family Fun Weekend it was great to see so many visitors to the club participating - around 39 of the entrants had built their craft at the Bembridge Harbour Company boat-building session held earlier in the week at the Duver Marina.
