It's been a busy few weeks for the Gig Rowers with social rows and event training for the Bembridge Gig Festival over the weekend.

Our first big news is that team Brading Haven Gig Rowers competed in their first ever event which was over the weekend. Bembridge Harbour and co-organisers Yarmouth Gig Rowing Club hosted 9 traditional fixed- seats gigs from Eastney, Langstone, Newhaven and Brading Haven.

On Saturday racing started around 13.00 with a straight-line 2km races from a laid start line in Seagrove Bay, finishing off at St Helens Church with Ladies, Mens and Mixed crews. We are pleased to announce that the Ladies team came 2nd in their race which was an amazing result. On Sunday it was a heads- style racing around St Helens Fort, the wind picked up and the teams had lumpy seas to contend with but another two enjoyable races. We thank Sid and Tony for coxing and John and Simon who were on the ribs both days.

We have lots to look forward to with an invite to row from Bembridge to Royal Victoria Yacht Club with Yarmouth Gig Rowing Club and an invitation to row with the Ladies team from Eastney Rowing Club who were super fast. Plus more social rows and picnic rows to Priory Bay. We have 21 people wanting to join us for taster rowing over the next month so we will be busy on the water.

If you are interested to hear more about our plans, activities, fun socials, social and competitive rows and much, more then please contact gigrowing@bhyc.org.uk
