SUNDAY RACE

Some of the best racing is the most unlikely and totally spontaneous. This is what happened on Sunday morning.

A beautiful early autumn morning but very little wind. However, the Scows were keen to go so we delayed the start for 20 minutes until a whisper of breeze was felt.

We set an ambitious course!! upside down Y (this side of fisherman's pontoon), then 17, 3 times round. The first round took ages but the southerly breeze filled in and the next two rounds were proper, light wind sailing.

In the first race Pete Giles picked up every whisper and came in ahead of Andy Pavey and SJ.

James Gabbani joined in for the second race and, having worked out his tactics from onshore, sailed a brilliant light weather race down to 10A and back, getting the better of both Pete and Andy.

A real confidence booster for those who have not done much sailing this season and a chance to test skills for regular racers.

Thanks to Murray for overseeing the race in the RIB and to the six scow sailors who had faith and turned up.

Anne, RO
