BHYC Mermaid Gin Regatta Day 1 Saturday

BHYC saw bright sunny conditions with a brisk west/ south westerly breeze and brought some 36 entries across the various classes from both and Bembridge Sailing Club.Courses were set for all Classes using # as the windward mark and Spence Willard as the wing; faster boats then went out to Y, whilst the slower ones use G as the leeward mark. Whilst at times the wind became a little patchy in by Spence Willard, it remained brisk, if shifty, on the rest of the course.A number of boats decided the conditions were too brisk and headed back to harbour and a few suffered breakages ( Jodi Dyer after having gained a solid lead in the Scow class) reducing the numbers of finishers. Those that did seemed to have enjoyed a good day's racing which, especially in the fast handicap, where only a few seconds separated the first three on corrected time..

BHYC Mermaid Gin Regatta Day 2 Sunday

With Saturdays, wind strength, moderating to a Southwest 3 to 4, gusting, 5. 44 intrepid crews took to the waters of Bembridge Bay, for BHYC Regatta Sunday 2023. Race Officer Chris Wilkinson anchored the committee boat midcourse with the Start / Finish Line set adjacent to Mark G, with a first beat to windward leg to Pepe, a wing Mark to port off Ducie Beach with a fast handicap. Going downwind to leeward mark JJ (P) before the long beat Lloyd back up to Pepe and and then back down to JJ before another triangle and back up to the finish line. For the slower handicap boats, the 1st mark was set as Pepe windward mark, same laid wing mark off Ducie but only down to leeward mark Y but still with the same shorter Olympic configuration sailed by all the remaining 5 Classes. Some good close racing was had by all competitors see the BHYC results link below.

Many thanks to our sponsors Mermaid Gin, our Race organisers and our Stalwart on the water, Patrol Boats, Crews and Committee Boat Team.
