The second event of the IoW Youth & Junior Championships 2023 was held at Brading Haven Yacht Club on Saturday 30 September.

The championships were open to 5 classes (ILCA 4 & 6, Tera Pro & Sport plus a class of Tera Coached boats)

A bright and sunny day with light southerly winds greeted all the competitors at BHYC. Once registering was completed and the sailors briefed the boats made their way out of the harbour to the race area South of St Helens Fort.

Seeing the fleets of some 27 boats departing the Harbour was truly a fine sight.

For the first race the ILCA fleet was sent off on a sausage triangle course followed by the Tera Sport fleet sailing a windward leeward course. The Coached fleet was also set a windward leeward course only a little shorter in length. As all the classes had to pass through the start finish line on each windward leg this made the interaction on the water very interesting at times.

The fleets had 3 further races to complete the regatta.

Duncan had a very active time overseeing the coached fleet and giving instructions and huge amounts of encouragement to all.

This was a spectacular event only made possible by the well attended entries and all the efforts of the club volunteers.

Next event is this coming Saturday at Yarmouth Sailing Club and Royal Solent Yacht Club www.iwyouthdinghychampionships.co.uk Results
