Gig News 2023

It has been a very exciting few weeks for the Gig rowers and team behind this new and exciting water-based activity available to all members of BHYC.

As many of you know, two BHYC members had a vision to bring the magic of Gig rowing to Bembridge 18 months ago. With the fantastic help of Yarmouth Gig Rowing Club and Langstone Gig Rowing and many enthusiastic members at BHYC, we were able to run a series of tasters throughout the Summer to get people onto the water.

We had a fantastic response and now have more than 45 rowers on the Gig Rowing What's app group, we have a developing Cox programme with members interested to learn to Cox. There are currently 5 members on the Cox programme who are being trained by John Kerr of Yarmouth and Mark Brownjohn of Langstone, who are themselves, hugely experienced and skilled Gig rowers.
