Swan Championships 2023

This years Swan championships had 4 boats competing. The intension was to sail 5 short W/L courses followed by a round the can and finish at the Club. Due to the lack of wind we only managed 3 races but did finish at the Club.

When the CB arrived at the starting area the wind was only about 2-3knts and the situation did not look promising! The 4 boats managed to get to the CB a little later than the scheduled starting time, therefore the five races looked unlikely.

The wind filled a little so the first race was started with all the boats having a close start.

Ann Barlow established a clear lead and was not to be caught, with Andy Steward in second, Ben Woods third and Crisso Smallman forth.

The second race followed soon after and the positions came out exactly the same in this race.

The third race consisted of a short beat to the windward mark and the returning to the harbour and finishing at the Club line. At the finish the order was again the same with Ann Barlow having a convincing lead. Unfortunately, Ann went round the windward mark the wrong way and thus had to retired from the race and incurring 5 points. This gave the championships to Andy Steward and Sam Steward.

Well done to all that completed the Championships in difficult conditions for Swans.

A big thank you to the support team and mark laying team RO RMcG
